A Mestre has dedicated his whole life to capoeira, devoted to sharing the essence and philosophy of an art and a people that survived oppression and persecution. He has conquered his space in the capoeira community through his respect and support of the art of capoeira not just from his group but all groups and preoccupation with quality of his students. A Mestre teaches not the art of kicking, but the art of loving. He inspires hard work and loyalty and lives his life by the philosophy of the art. He has struggled for the art, sacrificed for his art, suffered for his art; through his experience and dedication he has found love, peace, and wisdom. Therefore he is an essential guide and mentor in the journey. His humility tells him being master does not mean the learning process is over. Despite reaching the level of “Master”, he knows he is an eternal student who knows the learning and growing process are always part of his journey.
